analysis of Treatise Block Museum Treatise est une partition graphique du compositeur britanique Cornelius Cardew (1936-1981) qui comprend 193 pages de lignes, symboles, et formes géométriques ou abstraites variées qui renonce aux conventions de la notation musicale. Ce site qui fait partie de l'exposition Pictures Of Music, présente une analyse animée et simplifiée de cette fameuse partition qu'est Treatise. Treatise is a graphic musical score by British composer Cornelius Cardew (1936-1981) comprising 193 pages of lines, symbols, and various geometric or abstract shapes that eschew conventional musical notation. This site, part of the Picture of Music exhibition, presents a user friendly, animated analysis of Treatise. |

(Français) William Engelen, 2005 Verstrijken est une partition graphique crée par l'artiste néerlandais William Engelen en résidence à LA CHAMBRE BLANCHE (Québec). Pour son projet, l’artiste a tenu minutieusement un journal pendant un mois. La structure de la composition reflète celle des journées d’Engelen : des faits quotidiens et leur interprétation, traduits en portée musicale. From the moment he arrived until the beginning of the concert he wrote a diary. The musicpiece is based on this diary. The structure in the composition is given by the structure of his days. Daily occupations and his valuation of them are translated into a graphical score. Each hour of the day is represented by 4 seconds of music. Le logiciel fait sur mesure pour ce projet produit à partir des données musicales, des motifs d'arches translucides permettant au spectateur de voir la forme que prend n'importe quelle composition disponible sur le Web. What does music look like? The Shape of Song is an attempt to answer this paradoxical question. The custom software in this work draws musical patterns in the form of translucent arches, allowing viewers to see--literally--the shape of any composition available on the Web. |
